Career PATH

Brazil (CBF): 1985–1998

Bebeto made his international debut in 1985 and went on to become one of Brazil’s most reliable forwards of his generation. He helped secure the 1989 Copa América title and played a pivotal role in the 1994 World Cup triumph, scoring three goals, including a crucial strike in the quarter-final against the Netherlands. He also featured in the 1998 World Cup, where Brazil finished as runners-up to France. With 39 international goals, he remains among Brazil’s top scorers of his era.

CR Flamengo: 1983–1989

His professional career began at Flamengo, where he rose through the ranks alongside club legends such as Zico and Andrade. During his time there, he won three Campeonato Carioca titles (1985, 1986, 1991).

Vasco da Gama: 1989–1992, 1996–1999

Bebeto’s first stint at Vasco was highlighted by the 1989 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title, where he scored 18 goals and finished as the league’s top scorer. He returned to the club later in his career, adding further experience and goals to the squad.

Deportivo La Coruña: 1992–1996

A move to Spain brought one of the most prolific chapters of his career. Bebeto netted 86 goals in 131 appearances for Deportivo, topping the La Liga scoring charts in 1992/93 with 29 goals. He was instrumental in the club’s rise, including their near-title campaign in 1993/94, which went down to the final day.
