Jean-Pierre Papin was one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Papin won the Ballon d’Or in 1991 and became a legend at Olympique de Marseille. France (FFF): 1986–1995
Over the course of his international career, Papin earned 54 caps and scored 30 goals for France. He was part of the Euro 1992 squad and remains one of the top goal scorers in French international history.
Club Brugge: 1985–1986
His first move abroad brought him to Club Brugge, where he made an immediate impact. He scored 32 goals in 43 matches and helped the club win the Belgian Cup. His prolific form earned him a call-up to the French national team and paved the way for his transfer to Olympique de Marseille.
Olympique de Marseille: 1986–1992
At Marseille, Jean-Pierre enjoyed his prime, scoring 134 goals in 215 appearances and leading the team to four consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He was Ligue 1 top scorer for five straight seasons and won the Ballon d’Or in 1991, becoming the first Frenchman to do so since Michel Platini.
AC Milan: 1992–1994
Joining a star-studded squad under Fabio Capello, Papin contributed to Milan’s Serie A and Champions League triumphs, lifting the prestigious European Cup in 1993–94.
FC Bayern München: 1994–1996
Papin moved to Germany where he played a vital role in Bayern’s UEFA Cup win in 1995–96, adding another European trophy to his collection.
